Award Winning Gautrain Construction Progress

28 August 2008

Source: South Africa - Minnesota Business Council

Gauteng is the largest contributor to the South African GDP (more than a third) and is home to 8.8 million South Africans (20% of the SA population). The busiest roads in Africa are connecting the Johannesburg - Pretoria (Tswane) metro areas. Gautrain, which has at times been a controversial option in light of South Africa’s social make-up, is turning out to be a stellar example of a successful, world class infrastructure project. It is expected that the Gautrain will be operational in time for the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
